Traditional Watercolor

Traditionally watercolor has been used in a very transparent way. The white areas are the paper and adding water to the paint gives it the luminosity that is unique to watercolor. The transparency is especially nice for painting flowers and landscapes, but for many years I painted everything in watercolor. It can be beautiful for a looser look that shows the fluidity of the paint or tighter for a more detailed look
